Last night, the Occupy Wall Street movement moved to Lincoln Center, where the last performance of Philip Glass’s Satyagraha (roughly translated as “Truth Force”) was held. Satyagraha is an opera about Gandhi, civil disobedience, and nonviolent protest.
Here’s a video of Glass’s OWS speech in front of Lincoln Center. Through the human mic, he supports and praises the movement. Before he spoke, people who just got out of the opera joined us, and the protest continued equally on both sides of the barricade, rendering the barrier useless.
CURA: A Literary Magazine of Art & Action

CURA: A Literary Magazine of Art & Action is a multimedia initiative based at Fordham University committed to integrating the arts and social justice. Featuring creative writing, visual art, new media, and video in response to current news, we seek to enable an artistic process that is rigorously engaged with the world at the present moment.
This year our theme is “Home,” in light of our partnership with Covenant House, a childcare agency providing food, shelter, immediate crisis care, and essential services to homeless and runaway children. All publication proceeds will directly benefit Covenant House. During the months of October, November, February and March, CURA will post creative prompts online based on current news on the theme of “Home.” Multimedia submissions in response to these prompts will therefore be driven by events and experiences at the present moment resulting in writing, visual art, new media, and video that is not only relevant, but vital. We also welcome submissions that are based, in some way, on the theme of “Home.” We look forward to receiving responses to “Home” as evocative, vast and rich as the term itself.
